OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
The business processes by which any academic
institution operates –– processes such as human resources, payroll,
procurement, facilities management, and student enrollment services –– are
complex, technical, and crucial to institutional well-being. When these
processes are inefficient, overhead costs rise and services to faculty and
students suffer. Eventually, the rising cost and falling quality of services
becomes a lightning rod for the entire campus.
Stillwater is an
experienced provider of operations management services. Our involvement in
such projects is usually triggered by the failure of one or more processes.
Student tuition may have been improperly billed; facilities services may not
be adequate; a system problem may be foreclosing students from on-line
registration; or registration holds may be incorrectly placed on student
accounts.
Stillwater’s approach
to operations management centers on the service providers. After conducting
operations assessments of the institution’s core business processes, we
develop analytic models for process costing and quality management, train
staff in the principles and techniques of operations management, and work
with staff to identify unnecessary expenditures that can be redirected to
the core academic mission of the institution.
