Patricia Burch, managing principal of Stillwater, is a trained facilitator who specializes in strategy development, academic planning, and student services.

Ms. Burch has more than twenty years of experience in higher education, including more than ten years at Columbia University, where she was budget director for arts and sciences and associate provost for planning and policy analysis. She has a B.A. in economics from Columbia and an M.B.A. in business economics and non-profit management from the Columbia Graduate School of Business.


Gerald B. Finch, founder and managing principal of Stillwater, specializes in academic planning, governance, organization, and financial strategy.

He joined Columbia University as assistant professor of government, then moved into the administration –– first as associate dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and then as the university’s chief planning and budget officer.  He has a B.A. in political science from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Minnesota.


David Woodward, senior consultant, specializes in finance and financial processes. His experience includes stints as senior financial officer for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and as a consulting associate at Cambridge Associates. He has a B.A. in philosophy and religion from Colgate University, an M.A.R. from Yale Divinity School, and an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
